Week 1 of Mission CGPSC 2027 · First Principles — Prelims Phase begins: the Constitution's origins and the state's own birth certificate — plus the numeracy every CSAT paper leans on. See the full plan.
Constitutional Development (1773–1950)
Consider the following statements about the Charter Act of 1833:
- It made the Governor-General of Bengal the Governor-General of India.
- It ended the activities of the East India Company as a commercial body.
- It successfully introduced open competition for recruitment to the civil services.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
The 1833 Act created the Governor-General of India (William Bentinck) and turned the Company into a purely administrative body. It attempted open competition for the civil services, but this was negated after opposition from the Court of Directors; open competition was actually introduced by the Charter Act of 1853.
Formation of the State and Administrative Structure
How many seats does the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) have?
The Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha has 90 seats (as of 2026). The distractors are neighbours’ figures: 230 is Madhya Pradesh, 147 Odisha and 81 Jharkhand.
Basic Numeracy
What is the compound interest on ₹10,000 at 10% per annum for 2 years, compounded annually?
Amount = \( 10000 \times (1.1)^2 = 12100 \), so CI = ₹2,100. ₹2,000 is the simple interest; the extra ₹100 is the interest earned in the second year on the first year’s interest of ₹1,000.
