Daily Challenge — 10 October 2026
Week 1 of Mission CGPSC 2027 · First Principles — Prelims Phase begins: the Constitution's origins and the state's own birth certificate — plus the numeracy every CSAT paper leans on. See the full plan.
Preamble and Salient Features of the Constitution
Under the Constitution of India, which of the following can be done by a law passed by a simple majority of Parliament, without an amendment under Article 368?
Articles 2, 3 and 4 allow Parliament to form new States and alter boundaries by an ordinary law, and Article 4(2) says such a law is not an amendment under Article 368; Chhattisgarh was created by the Madhya Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2000. Changing the President’s election method and the Seventh Schedule need a special majority plus ratification by half the States; Fundamental Rights need a special majority.
Physical Geography: Location, Relief, Rivers and Climate
Consider the following statements:
- The Mahanadi rises near Sihawa in Dhamtari district.
- The Rihand flows south to join the Mahanadi.
- The Indravati joins the Godavari at the tri-junction of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Telangana.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
The Mahanadi rises near Sihawa (Dhamtari). The Rihand rises near Mainpat and flows north to the Son, so it belongs to the Ganga system, not the Mahanadi. The Indravati, which rises in Kalahandi (Odisha), joins the Godavari where Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Telangana meet.
Basic Numeracy
A can complete a piece of work in 12 days and B can complete it in 18 days. Working together, in how many days will they complete it?
One day’s combined work = \( \frac{1}{12} + \frac{1}{18} = \frac{3 + 2}{36} = \frac{5}{36} \). Time = \( \frac{36}{5} = 7.2 \) days. 15 days (the average of 12 and 18) is the trap — working together must take less time than the faster worker alone, so any answer of 12 days or more is impossible.
