Week 1 of Mission CGPSC 2027 · First Principles — Prelims Phase begins: the Constitution's origins and the state's own birth certificate — plus the numeracy every CSAT paper leans on. See the full plan.
Preamble and Salient Features of the Constitution
Consider the following statements about the Preamble to the Constitution of India:
- The words ‘Socialist’, ‘Secular’ and ‘Integrity’ were added by the 42nd Amendment Act, 1976.
- In the Kesavananda Bharati case (1973), the Supreme Court held that the Preamble is a part of the Constitution.
- A law can be struck down by a court solely on the ground that it conflicts with the Preamble.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
Statements 1 and 2 are correct: the 42nd Amendment added Socialist, Secular and Integrity, and Kesavananda Bharati (1973) overruled the Berubari (1960) view that the Preamble is not part of the Constitution. Statement 3 is wrong because the Preamble is non-justiciable; it is an aid to interpretation, not a ground on its own for striking down a law.
Physical Geography: Location, Relief, Rivers and Climate
Which one of the following states does NOT share a border with Chhattisgarh?
Chhattisgarh borders seven states: Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra. Bihar does not touch Chhattisgarh — Jharkhand lies in between.
Basic Numeracy
A shopkeeper marks an article 25% above its cost price and then allows a discount of 10% on the marked price. What is his profit percentage?
Let CP = 100. Marked price = 125; after a 10% discount, SP = \( 125 \times 0.9 = 112.5 \). Profit = 12.5, i.e. 12.5%. The trap answer 15% comes from simply subtracting 10 from 25, which ignores that the discount is taken on the larger marked price.
